Funnies of the Month
Welcome to the Champion Community
This month we welcome new residents Tom and Jackie to their forever home at our Village. Thanks again to Sheila for undertaking the meet and greet to allow us all at the Village to be introduced to this lovely couple.
Tom and Jackie – Lot 62
Tom and Jackie Watson at Lot 62 are joined by their unusual black teacup poodle called George who manages to get around the village on 3 legs, a little marvel!! He was initially quite shy when he came into the village but as he day passes he becomes more familiar to his new surrounds filled with friendly neighbours and happy pooches.
They have been married for 35 years but in Tom’s words “Jackie has been lucky enough to be with me since she was 16!!!”. They have 3 children, Katie, Jane and David. The girls are married and live in Perth while David lives in Melbourne and was recently married only earlier this year. Tom and Jackie have 5 grandchildren who they see regularly.
They are currently the youngest couple in the village. Tom underwent a back operation last year and was finding it increasingly difficult to maintain a large garden and property. Tom and Jackie decided it was time to downsize.
They like the overall outlook of the village, the pet policy and the friendliness of their neighbours. Tom is busy organising their forever home and garden including a vertical garden design feature. Jackie is noted for her talent in crafts and is already involved in the pottery group in the village.
Welcome to you both.
Social Scoop – Melbourne Cup
Melbourne Cup celebrations were a great success at the Village with 50 race goers enjoying a fabulous lunch. Special thanks to Kay, Judy, Rosie, Sheila and Chris for co-ordinating the event. Les thank you also for running the sweep stake.
An additional special thank you must go to Byford Country Club for their generous donation of dinner vouchers won by very grateful winners Denise and Ron along with Archie and Jo.
Sweepstake winners Kev and Margaret took out 1st place, with Sue our village cleaner taking out 2nd & Suzette and Dave placed 3rd. Two days later the village remains alive with stories of what a wonderful day was had by so many.
More Social Scoop
Tuesday 26th October saw our residents jump on the pre-arranged party bus off to Duckstein Brewery to enjoy an entertaining day with friendly neighbours to celebrate Oktoberfest.
Whilst the weather was overcast with a chill that hit the bones, a few steins over lunch kept the crowd warm and toasty. The very pleasant and merry outing was made possible through Rob from SCI
We are excited to finally be offering our residents exclusive NBN Plans through Think Data. By purchasing data in bulk for our community, Think Data is able to provide cheaper rates, faster speeds and onsite customer service far superior to other providers such as Telstra and TPG.

Champion Birthdays ?
Birthday well wishes for the month of October are extended to:- Denise @ Lot 9 , Dave @ Lot 12, Paul @ Lot 21 Dawn @ Lot 47, Eve @ Lot 52.
To all our village October birthday residents we say HAPPY BIRTHDAY and we hope you have something nice planned to enjoy your special day!!
Funnies of the Month
Welcome to the Champion Community
This month we welcome 3 sets of new residents to their forever homes at our Village. Thanks to Sheila and Les for compiling the interviews to introduce these residents to the community.
Margaret – Lot 16
We welcome Margaret to the Village in Lot 16 as well as her lovely dog Charlie who is 12 years old. Margaret was born in UK but went to Cape Town, South Africa with her family at the age of 4. They moved to a farm in Lusaka, Zambia from the age of 7 where she undertook both her primary and high school education. When she was 18, they had to leave Zambia and move to England where she worked as a secretary and her parents worked in a printing business in Worcester.
They emigrated to Australia in the mid 1960’s and settled in Bunbury. She soon married and had a son Ricki and daughter Michelle. She has fond memories of enjoying the sea, swimming and diving on the reefs of this area. This marriage lasted about 15 years.
Many years later, Margaret met and married Ray which resulted in a move to Perth where they ran a refuelling business at Jandakot airport. They also had many happy years touring around Australia on motorbikes and were part of the Ulysses club enjoying many excursions with them. Her favourite trips were going across the Nullarbor.
Margaret has lived in the Thornlie area for many years before coming into the village. Upon Ray’s passing 10 years ago, it has been an adjustment as they had worked and socialised together for so many years.
Margaret enjoys being in the village and whilst concerned about Charlie being able to settle, she is enjoying the interaction made possible surrounded by pets and humans alike and finds herself and Charlie feeling very comfortable here.
Margaret was attracted to the Village initially as she liked the look of the village and enjoys the friendliness of everyone. She has been busy getting her house organised and hopes to join in activities in the future once she has settled in.
John & Louise – Lot 58
We would also like to welcome John & Louise of Lot 58 and their little Maltese/ poodle cross dog called Cyril who is two and a half years old.
Both John & Louise were born and lived in Hobart, Tasmania where they were educated and then joined the workforce. Louise worked in the State Government in the licensing and registration department and John was in retail at Woolworth’s.
They met at Indoor Cricket over 35 years ago and have been married for 33 years. They have 2 daughters and came to Perth 16 years ago to provide greater opportunities for the family.
John remains a FIFO worker on week-about shift at a gold mine near Leinster where he has been for the last 10 years. Louise worked in a disability home, initially as a support worker for 6 years then as manager for 8 years and retired 12 months ago.
Their daughter Felicity lives in Port Bouvard and she and her husband work on a mine on week-about shifts where Felicity is in the office, and he is a supervisor. Their other daughter, Kate works at the Perth airport and lives in Southern River where John and Louise have been staying for the last few months while their house was being built.
Louise likes reading, photography and swimming as well as watching the footy. John likes golf, footy and all types of sport. Interesting fact is that John was in the state Tennis team for Tassie in his prime.
They have a caravan and are very interested in touring in it and are looking for ideas of good camping areas.
Before coming into this village, they lived in the Thornlie area and knew that it was time to look and downsizing/rightsizing that suited their lifestyle and interests. They went around various places and liked the concept of a new house in an area with massive potential for growth. They like the acceptance of pets and the spaciousness of the village with open areas and community atmosphere and just love it here.
Terry and Rita – Lot 48
Terry and Rita Chambers now reside at Lot 48 and moved here from Mt Richon where they have spent the last 3 years renovating a house. The house was on a steep hillside with great views but the task and workload for completing the renovation was difficult, so they did a lot of research to find a lifestyle village to move to. After a lot of searching and viewing many, they felt that this one had the right feel for them and was the nicest one they had been in.
Terry is an avid fisherman and Rita likes to join him. Rita’s usual catch is a maximum of 2 and if both are blowfish then it is up to Terry to catch the edible variety.
Rita has had a space made available to her in the Community shed where she practices her hobby of Copper Foiling Glass which is a bit like lead lighting.
Many of you will remember the wonderful items she produced at the Big Breakfast Cancer function which were snapped up by residents.
We wish you all a happy life in the village and we are sure you will enjoy your time here.

Funnies of the Month
Welcome to the Champion Community
This month we welcome our newest residents Richard and Leslie to their forever home at 22 Scenery Court (Lot 2).
They had lived in Lathlain for 47 years before moving to South Yunderup upon retirement. After two and a half years of country living, they decided to place themselves closer to family and the city amenities.
They have 2 daughters and 4 grandchildren most of whom are grown up and are in the Perth metro area. They also have brought to their home their gorgeous dog Coco who is very friendly and loves people.
Richard and Leslie love to travel and they consider one of the bonuses of living in this village is the possibility of being able to travel and have their home and possessions in a safe and secure environment whilst they enjoy those experiences. They have travelled extensively in the northern areas of Australia and hope one day to travel around Australia in their caravan. They both love to get away and specially to spend time fishing.
They have been friends with current residents Margaret and Kevin for 30 years and have fond memories of many family holidays and water-skiing adventures enjoyed.
Leslie used to have an extensive cleaning business which meant that she worked long hours and had very little spare time but did enjoy gardening when she got the opportunity at their Lathlain property. Just quietly amongst the Lathlain locals she was renowned for the size and quality of the vegetables she grew on the property. Richard previously worked in an office environment along with assisting in the cleaning business administratively.
Their move here has been like starting anew as they left everything in their South Yunderup home for the new owners. They are proud and pleased to be starting this next chapter of their journey almost afresh.
We hope you will enjoy yourselves with us as you settle into our village environment with city amenities just around the corner.

It’s a Wrap – Biggest Morning Tea
We were over the moon to receive this email as thanks to the Village for hosting our event back in June and thought it should be shared with you all as acknowledgement of the combined effort involved in making the event the success it was.
Hi Champion Lakes Lifestyle Village,I hope you and your loved ones are doing well during these uncertain times. I’m just popping in your inbox today to share some good news – this year’s Biggest Morning Tea results! Which, I should add, would not have been possible without wonderful hosts like yourself. Are you ready? Because these figures have come in, and they’re so exciting that you might need to lie down after reading (I know I did! ?).Around the country…20,072 generous hosts like you held a morning tea,200,720 people attended an Australia’s Biggest Morning Tea,and approximately, 240,864 cuppas were enjoyed. We can only imagine how many delicious morning tea treats were consumed!AND BEST OF ALL….YOU, yes YOU helped us raise $10,518,297 and counting!
Isn’t that amazing?! I wish you could have seen the faces of our researchers, cancer nurses, staff and volunteers when they saw these numbers! I hope you feel proud to be a part of something so special. After the year that was 2020, this is a truly incredible result, and we can’t thank you enough for all of your hard work to support people impacted by cancer.
The funds raised from your morning tea are helping to:
? Provide 39,303 Australians affected by cancer with the support they need via our 13 11 20 Information and Support service.? Protect 2 million little Aussies from the sun via our SunSmart school program.? And fund life-saving research, with morning teas like yours helping us invest almost $300 million in cancer research over the last five years alone.
We are all so grateful for you, Champion Lakes Lifestyle Village!Wishing you all the best for the rest of the year, and I hope to see you on board again in 2022.Yours gratefully, Meaghan Bush, National General Manager, Australia’s Biggest Morning Tea
Community Garden
A special call out to all the Popeye’s and Olive Oyl’s at the Village…… The spinach and silver beet in the community garden is plentiful and ready for picking.
Additional rhubarb has recently been planted that will take some time to mature and so far, the brassicas (broccoli, cauli & brussels) planted last month have survived the chewing bugs. The Bok choy wasn’t so lucky however and as we try to minimise the use of “sprays” in the garden, Sometimes it is just ‘survival of the fittest’.
Every Tuesday the green thumbs of the village are encouraged to get some dirt under their fingernails and enjoy some camaraderie and gardening with other likeminded residents. Please don’t hesitate to reach out to Sheila (Lot 39) or Chris (Lot 14) to discuss your interest in joining in the Springtime fun.
Interesting facts on Silver beet. It is also commonly known as swiss chard, spinach, perpetual spinach, crab beet, and mangold.
Silver beet is actually a close relative of beetroot (in fact it’s a variety of the same species), but it’s grown for its leaves and stems.
In the United States and Australia, the leaves are valued, while European cooks value the stalks. In fact, they often discard the leaves or feed them to animals. The first varieties have been traced back to Sicily, rather than Switzerland!
Silver beet is a nutritional powerhouse – an excellent source of vitamins K, A, and C, as
well as a good source of magnesium, potassium, iron, and dietary fibre.
Social Scoop – ABBA
Saturday 28th we had an Abba night at the Lodge. We watched the movie of Mamma Mia and joined in and sang along to many of the songs and some of us even danced in the aisles especially to Dancing Queen!!
We then enjoyed an incredible supper so ably prepared and served by Rhonda, Cheryl and Elaine with Roger being one of our super chefs and making a delicious strawberry sponge. And it didn’t stop there, we then had a couple of rounds of Abba trivia questions and listened and sung well into the night many ABBA favourites. Thanks to those who came and made it such an enjoyable evening.
Every Wednesday in the Clubhouse between 10am – 12pm indoor bowls is enjoyed by many of our residents. Each week we are seeing numbers and the morning growing in popularity so don’t be a stranger and come roll up for the morning to enjoy either participating or spectating.

On the trail you’ll discover an extraordinatry range of artists and art practices, nestled amongst the stunning natural beauty of the Armadale hills on our village doorstep.
Falls can happen to us at any age; however, changes we go through as we get older can put us more at risk of having a fall.
The good news is that falls are preventable no matter your age, & Stay On Your Feet® has simple tips & tools to use to keep you active & on your feet.
Friendly Reminder to the Gym Junkies in the Village
If you are planning to complete a work out on the equipment in the gym area and will be on your own perhaps consider letting your partner, neighbour or a friendly face in the village know as to how long you plan on building those biceps….. and at the end of the workout checking in to let them know you have survived not just the work out but to enjoy the bragging rights that go with getting a sweat on to that same friendly face, neighbour or partner ensures that for any reason you don’t report back in someone will know where you will be.
Resident – First Aid Responders
Your friendly resident committee recently requested that we ask the resident community if there are any First Aid trained – First Responders living amongst us, that would be willing and able to be called upon should an incident arise within our village. Whilst it is noted that we are an indepentant living village, as a community focussed organisation we encourage any residents that are suitably trained and would be willing to assist in the event of an emergency please speak to a Resident Committee representative to let them know.

Hello & welcome to the August newsletter!
Funnies of the Month
Champion Birthdays
Birthday well wishes for the month of August are extended to:-
Ben @ Lot 5
Les @ Lot 8
Linda @ Lot 36
Rhonda @ Lot 53
To all our village August birthday residents we say HAPPY BIRTHDAY and we hope you have something nice planned to enjoy your special day!!
Welcome to the Champion Community
The Village is happy to welcome Kaye & Richard into Lot 55 who joined us in July. Kaye has been living on 16 acres in rural Mardella and Richard moved here from Weymouth, Dorset England late in 2020. A romantic ocean cruise was the setting for their first meeting in 2017. They maintain a residence on the Mardella property and love the flexibility it gives them to spend time between Village and Rural life.
When asked if they had any pets they said they had 2 dogs, 2 cats, 8 horses, 10 alpacas 8 sheep and a dozen chickens. Thankfully for our other residents, they decided to leave them all in Mardella where they are looked after by Kaye’s family.
Kaye has previously lived in another nationally operated lifestyle village and it wasn’t a great experience. She had a good look at this village before deciding to move in, a decision that she and Richard agree has worked out very well.
Their reason for selecting our village was that it was family-owned, had a rural aspect to it and they liked the choice associated with the buyback schemes on offer.
Kaye loves to arrange social functions and has already joined the Resident’s Committee where she will concentrate on social activities. Richard likes to dabble in the garden and while they don’t have a big garden in the village, he has lots to keep him occupied on his visits to the property in Mardella. I hope you will all make Kaye and Richard feel very welcome in our community.
The picture shows off the incredible addition that has been installed to enhance the warm cosy winter atmosphere in their new home.
Additionally, new residents David & Elaine at Lot 49 who only moved in last month haven’t let the wintery weather hold them back either. They have really made their new abode their own tranquil space – picture to the right. Well done on the courtyard additions just in time for the warmer months to be enjoyed!
Display Home – Come Visit Us
In addition to the selection of floor plans and inclusions on offer, “Right Sizing” – looks and feels very different at Champion Lifestyle.
Come and see for yourself what is available and how we can individualise your requirements effectively and easily as has been achieved with recent new residents that have created a fabulous tranquil courtyard space and a homely, warm and cosy lounge room fireplace for their own enjoyment.
Strict hygiene standards & social distancing precautions are always on our minds so don’t be shy – and come & say Hi 9am – 2pm Monday – Friday!!
Band Jam – EVERY TUESDAY
When the band plays the crowds follow or so it seems. Tuesday’s in the clubhouse is the place to be and all residents and prospective residents are welcome to join in the weekly sessions enjoying favourite hits of great tunes. Each and every Tuesday in the clubhouse lodge for a coffee and natter with neighbours. 9.30am – 11.30am we look forward to seeing you there.
Village Management Update
With the relentless rain, our internal road construction for stage two has been slower than envisaged unfortunately, however fingers crossed the worst of the weather is behind us and our new road will be completed next month which means the opening up of many new lots ready for reservations just in time for Spring.
On Thursday 22nd July, 2021 a very successful seminar was held at the Village through Stable Wealth, the learnings and outcomes of that session were highly regarded by those in attendance and it is therefore intended that another session is held around November, 2021. We will keep you posted as exact dates come to hand.
Leah had an enjoyable week in sunny Exmouth with her family during the recent school holidays and reports that she didn’t miss the weather that she got to escape from even if it was just a week!! Snorkelling and swimming with the turtles – now that’s relaxation!!! It also seems residents John & Eve had the same ideas of enjoying the warmer weather and it was great to hear they all caught up with each other 1 night for a few beverages at the local whilst being 1,250km’s from the place they call home.
It was also great to witness the large turnout in numbers to the recent Annual Budget meeting and also the Resident’s Annual General Meeting both held in July. With such enthusiasm and willingness demonstrated by residents it provides confidence to all that Champion Lifestyle is a thriving community for all.
Congratulations to past and new resident committee members for all that you have achieved and will achieve into the future.
Village Management has also been privy to a resident-initiated cat enclosure that is just fabulous providing space and room for the resident’s feline to play and roam whilst at the same time respecting their neighbours adjoining private areas. If any residents would like further information on this dedicated area, please do not hesitate to approach the office for further information.
Resident Recycling
Our village recycling project is generating substantial funds for the resident’s bank account. It has raised $550 for the 1st half of 2021 and it is anticipated to raise about $1500 over the next 12 months. These funds are for the exclusive benefit of village residents.
There are 3 recycling bins in front of the Community lodge for glass, plastic and cans. There are another 2 smaller blue bins with one located opposite Lot 1 and the other at Kev’s Corner (see picture). These smaller blue bins are for a combination of glass, plastic and cans and will be emptied and sorted regularly.
To avoid any uncertainty all recyclable items will have the value of ‘10c’ printed on them somewhere.
We can all help the environment and the residents bank account by recycling wherever possible. Many thanks for all your support for this ongoing project.
Community Garden
Spinach/silver beet is ripe for the picking and it is encouraged to do so by residents for their own consumption and enjoyment.
Seedlings of broccoli, brussels, cauliflowers have recently been planted but the caterpillars are giving the seedlings a bit of grief at the moment so Sheila and Chris are keen to have any assistance offered in nurturing the new additions to our community garden to help them thrive over coming months.
Sheila and Chris welcome any residents with or without a green thumb to join them each Tuesday to enjoy some down and dirty general garden tasks along with the simple pleasure of toiling in the soil and catching some Vitamin D from the sunshine.
Please note residents are welcome anytime to spend some time in the garden although gardening is very much a weather permitting activity. Small donations for veggies that are picked are also encouraged to support the ongoing purchase of seedlings, tools, fertilisers, pest control etc.
Interesting fact –- Rosemary is a rich source of antioxidants and anti-inflammatory compounds, which are thought to help boost the immune system and improve blood circulation. Rosemary is considered a cognitive stimulant and can help improve memory performance and quality. It is also known to boost alertness, intelligence, and focus.
Pet register
Recently a pet register was created by the office to assist management in the overall co-ordination of our beloved friends across the site in the event of needing to locate an owner for any reason. A form was passed around to all residents and we ask that you please return these at your earliest conveience to support us in updating the village records appropriately. If you have any concerns or queries with regard to the form you are encouraged to speak to us on site or by phone.
Social Scoop – Xmas in July
Xmas in July was held on Saturday 24th July with most of the village residents in attendance. Everyone thoroughly enjoyed catching up with the other residents in a very convivial atmosphere. The night was topped off with a great meal and dessert which, from all accounts, was universally enjoyed. The organisation of the event was second to none so full marks to Chris and her helpers for arranging such a good night.

The bi-annual meeting of the Workshop was very well attended and following that meeting, works have commenced to remove clutter and personal belongings from the space so that additional work stations can be created.
Additionally the new committee was voted in and general discussions to increase user access were considered a high priority.
A busy bee has been organised for Wednesday 4th of August 2021 from 9am and all willing and able are encouraged to attend for some community spirit as we spruce up the current Workshop internals.
Fred, Marty and the committee remain encouraging of any residents to join them any week day morning but particularly every Wednesday between 10.30 – 11.30am should you be interested in partaking in any type of workshop activities.

Village Management Update
With both Ben and Leah enjoying annual leave at the start of this month during the school holiday period and Jane & Keith scheduled to take holidays in late July 2021, we remain hopeful that our WA journey out of lockdown continues in the positive path that we are currently on.
So fortunate we are of the expansive communal areas and facilities that all residents can call their own, this is a courtesy reminder that within our village community we are not immune to the state government guidelines. Your respect and appreciation for those around you are very appreciated as we all continue to follow the guidelines and keep ourselves and our community safe and healthy.
The long-awaited Summer Olympics are on our doorstep and it is time to live and breathe sporting elitism at its finest if you’re a sporting enthusiast.
Our special thanks must go to residents Ray, Barb and Chris who will be starring in our very own Olympic advertisement promoting our village during the coverage of the games on Channel 7. With many laughs and many more re-takes, sheer determination and persistence got us the finished product we think you can all be proud of. Be sure to keep a lookout for their friendly smiling faces spread across your television screens during the games!!
An incredible $1,000 was raised to support Cancer research and special thanks must go to Chris, Sheila, Denise, Faye, Jim and John for their assistance in setting up and packing down for the event.
A very enjoyable and scrumptious spread was enjoyed at our recent “Mothers Day High Tea” in the Lodge. A huge thank you must be expressed to the many talented residents who brought the spread together for all to enjoy with their very talented baking abilities.
