WELCOME TO THE CHAMPION COMMUNITY
This month we welcomed new residents Hilda @ Lot 18 as well as Alan & Jenny Platt @ Lot 22 in addition to Myrna Turner @ Lot 51 to their forever homes in our Village.
Our beloved interview author Sheila is away on holiday, so we have been unable to undertake our normal editorials on our new residents. We, therefore, thought it fitting to introduce Sheila Parker to you all, and for those that don’t know, Sheila is a very active and adventurous 80 year young.
With travel restrictions easing, Sheila is currently traveling to various destinations with Cascade Tours including: Northam, Wave Rock, Ravensthorpe, Pingrup, Katanning, Albany, Bremer Bay with visits to Silos, Museums, and much more.
Amongst other things Sheila loves socialising, travel, wildflowers and gardening. Sheila has thoughtfully organised emergency response cards for all our village residents and has always offered a helping hand when needed, we cant thank her enough for all that she does. These special people like Sheila we proudly call our village residents.
THE “SCENE” AROUND AT CHAMPION LAKES
We have been fortunate to capture some fabulous activities being undertaken by our residents across the village site in the last month and thought we would share their activities as they were captured.
The lovely Louise drove the village bus to go “lunching with the ladies” at Guildford Hotel followed by shopping at Midland.
Lorna and Dianne held a meditation session on Sunday for everyone which was very enjoyed by all those in attendance.
An interesting insight into the practice of meditation is that it helps keep our minds relaxed and engaged, which enables us to age with grace. By incorporating mindfulness into a senior’s mind, body and soul, meditation can offer these surprising health benefits: Reduces and controls blood pressure. Regulates cortisol levels by improving your immune system functioning.
Milestone birthdays for two residents Ron and John were celebrated this month as they both enjoyed the joy of turning 80 surrounded by their neighbors and friends over cake and beverages in the Clubhouse. Congratulation gentlemen!!!
Thank you to Rhonda for supplying these great shots of the residents who came together to enjoy the derby of West Coast v Dockers on the big screen in our Lodge last weekend.
A sausage sizzle along with Dawn’s famous bruschetta was thoroughly enjoyed at the halftime break.
GO, DOCKERS!!!!!!
CONSTRUCTION/ SALES UPDATE
Despite all our display homes now being sold, we still have lots to view in the village.
New homes are starting every week from concrete pads, to frames going up, insulation, and cabinets installation. It’s great to see all the custom ideas that future residents have made to our standard designs to make them unique.
Please contact Leah on 93903909 to book a tour of the village and discuss options to design a home to cater to your needs.
Please note: the Sales office will be closed over the Easter Break from Wednesday the 13/4 to Monday the 18/4.

WELCOME TO THE CHAMPION COMMUNITY
This month we welcome new residents Jim and Diane @ Lot 10 and eventually Lot 74 along with Ann Spaanderman @ Lot 43 to their forever homes at our Village. Thanks again to Sheila for undertaking the meet and greet to allow us all at the Village to be introduced to these fabulous new residents.
Lot 10/ 74 – Jim & Diane Mitchell
Welcome to Jim & Diane Mitchell to the village. They are currently residing at Lot 10 whilst construction is completed on their forever home at Lot 74, 9 Calm Drive.
They bring with them Roxy a beautiful Rottweiler cross who is very gentle and Angus who is a bit more feisty, maybe one could say a pooch with attitude!!
They are both originally from the UK, Diane from Lincoln and Jim from Bradford. They arrived in Australia in 1966, 3days after they got married so their honeymoon was spent on the Fairstar where they were in separate cabins, 4 guys in one cabin and 4 girls in the other…. not the best arrangement on your honeymoon!!
Upon arrival they purchased a house in Maddington and had 2 boys who are now in their 40s and currently live close by, one in Thornlie and one in Seville Grove. Matt their oldest has 2 boys and Jamie their 2nd has a girl and 2 boys.
They were in Maddington for 17 years before they built a house in the 1980s in the Castle Glen Estate, Thornlie, where they stayed for 5 years before moving to Roleystone and then Bedfordale as they kept enlarging their properties until they had an acre of land in Bedfordale on a peaceful block in a bush area.
The move to the village has been the reverse of their previous purchases with right-sizing being front and centre to them both. They have undertaken numerous caravanning trips in the past and intend on doing further trips in Australia in the future. Jim loves golf and hopes to get back into playing in the future after some time being unable to do so. Di has also played golf but she also loves art and enjoys different media of painting. We look forward to welcoming Di to our craft group to once she is settled. She loves a good laugh and they have been married for 56 years. They say that equates to 2 life sentences and they still get along so they are doing rather well!!
Lot 43 – Ann Spaanderman
Welcome to Ann Spaanderman, who has recently taken up residence with us at Lot 43, 26 Lifestyle Lane. Ann has brought with her Gismo a beautiful Pomeranian with a gorgeous coat in tan, white and grey colours. Another special friend for our growing family of 4 legged residents!!
Ann was born and lived all her life in the Armadale area. She worked in retail on the checkouts at both Woolworths and Coles supermarkets in the local area.
Later she also worked in nursing homes and in the special needs area in group home care. She was married in 1977 and had 3 sons. Now ranging in ages from 40 to 44 years of age.
Interesting fact is Ann finds it remarkably easy to remember her children’s locations as the initial of their names and place of residence are the same!!! Brad lives in Bunbury, Troy in Tassie and Jeremy in Jarrahdale.( It is like one of those rhyming games!!)
She has 10 grandchildren ranging in age from 13 years to 14 months. Ann has lived on her own for 26 years so is used to her own company and is never bored.
She loves to potter in the garden and enjoys crafts including long stitch and 3D card making with paper tole. She may be able to share her skills in the craft group once she is settled in. She enjoys and used to breed tropical fish and has brought 2 tanks with these fish to her new home. She had a big aviary with budgerigars in her previous home and has brought just one of her colourful feathered friends with her. She makes heat packs of various sizes and sells them online or on marketplace. She also loves doing jigsaws and nearly always has one on the go.
THE “SCENE” AROUND AT CHAMPION LAKES
We have been fortunate to capture some fabulous activities being undertaken by our residents across the village site in the last month and thought we would share their activities as they were captured.
EXPRESSIONS OF INTERESTS UPDATE
Doggy Pageant – A very minimal response was received on this recent Expression of Interest so we will not be pursuing this event on behalf of the village.
Darts – A great response for the suggested weekly Darts session has transpired with all interest received proposing 10am on Tuesday mornings. We look forward to commencing the first Darts session next Tuesday 15th March, in the theatre area of the clubhouse which will be accompanied by the band jamming session to provide the tunes for the weekly event.
VILLAGE MANAGEMENT UPDATE
We are delighted to announce Stage 2C has now officially Sold Out! As we prepare for Stage 3 commencement, we are also pleased to provide all residents as an attachment to this newsletter a copy of the Stage 3 Plans which have been submitted to City of Armadale for approval. (see below)
Village Management has recently updated our Resident register to include all our new residents of late. If any residents would like a hard copy of this list, please pop into the office and pick one up at your convenience.
Lodgement for the approval of hosting water aqua-aerobics classes have been lodged with the City of Armadale back in February, 2022. As the pool needs to receive a special exemption to facilitate this programme on a weekly basis for this class to be held we look forward to City of Armadale and then the Department of Health granting this approval, which is similar to that of what is set up at many villages across Perth.
COMMUNITY GARDEN
The size of the eggplants is certainly a great sight to see and to be enjoyed by all the residents of the Village. As is the contrast of leaves and flowers as the basil and capsicum grow in harmony interwoven amongst each other and looking so very healthy and appetising.
Interesting facts on Eggplants:-
Eggplant has antioxidants like vitamins A and C, which help protect your cells against damage. It’s also high in natural plant chemicals called polyphenols, which may help cells do a better job of processing sugar if you have diabetes. Bougainvillaea is in profuse flower welcoming visitors to the Community Garden or so it would seem!! Interesting fact on this plant is that the flowers or the showy paper-like structures are not actually flowers but are a modified leaf called a bract. These three bracts hide the true flowers inside, which are small, trumpet-shaped flowers in whites and yellows.

WELCOME TO THE CHAMPION COMMUNITY
This month we welcome new residents Peter & Susan @ Lot 27 along with Peter & Kay @ Lot 45 to their forever homes in our Village. Thanks again to Sheila for undertaking the meet and greet to allow us all at the Village to be introduced to these fabulous new residents.
Peter & Susan Lot 27
Welcome to Champion Lakes Peter and Susan Peerce who are currently transiently located at Lot 3 with intent to be in their new home at Lot 27 at 15 Delight Way in the next few weeks.
Peter and Susan were both originally from Geraldton where they met and married 45 years ago. They built a house in Geraldton where Susan was a Nurse and Peter worked for the Department of Corrections as a Prison Officer.
They lived in Geraldton for many years and that is where their two sons Chris and Kingsley attended Primary School. Susan worked on the night shift and Peter in the day to be there for the boys. After a few years, Susan trained as a Teacher’s Aide and worked in that capacity for a few years. Their son Chris has Down’s Syndrome and Susan became involved in the early intervention programme in Geraldton for Down’s Syndrome. They moved to Atwell when Chris graduated to High School in order to be nearer hospitals for general ongoing appointments and give him a better chance for suitable education in his senior years. He is now 36 years old and lives in a group home in Wilson. Kingsley lives in Byford with his fiancé and wedding preparations are well underway.
Susan worked at the MS Society for over 6 years in the early 2000s and is looking forward to joining in the activities in the Village.
They moved from Atwell to be in easy reach of the boys as well as enjoying the country feel of the Village and are adjusting to a smaller home after being used to a large property. Susan felt it was an omen that her Maiden name was Lake so instantly felt at home here. Susan is interested in art, ceramics, felting, and pottery as well as enjoying all her pot plants. Peter is an enthusiast of model trains and likes reading and playing chess. He is also an avid sports person and has played Soccer, Golf, and some Australian Rules Footy as well as lots of Cricket, a little Hockey, and Basketball which he has even coached during the years that his sons were growing up.
They are looking forward to immersing themselves in the Village society and enjoying the activities offered. Peter is looking forward to retiring in about 18 months’ time. They had a mobile home and travelled with it when the boys were younger, they have now bought a caravan and hope to spend time travelling across Australia when it is possible and like the opportunity in the village to lock and leave their property so easily allowing them to travel. They are also looking forward to their sons being able to visit them in their new home.
Peter & Kay Ellis Lot 45
Peter and Kay Ellis have been with us for a few months and have just moved into their permanent home at Lot 45 or 30 Lifestyle Lane. They have certainly had a tough job with moving during this recent hot weather. When I caught up with them, they had taken an early morning trip to the beach and given themselves a well-deserved break.
They arrived in Perth by ship from the UK back in the 1970s with their 1-year-old son, Darren. Peter was originally from South London and Kay from Brighton.
They resided initially in Beckenham for a few years and their daughter was born in 1972. They moved to South Australia in 2007 with their daughter and family and stayed for 14 years. Their daughter now lives in Secret Harbour with her 2 children, a son, and a daughter. Their oldest, Darren lives in Seville Grove with his 2 boys. Peter and Kay catch up with their children and grandchildren quite regularly. Their 4 grandchildren are all between the ages of 19 and 21 years.
Peter and Kay have only been back in Western Australia since last August so are still getting familiarised with the local area. They liked the setup and openness of the Village and also its convenience to the children and grandchildren.
During her working career, Kay worked mainly in retail and was with Myers for a number of years both in WA and SA. Peter has worked in many jobs and in later years was in a supervisory capacity in an electrical contracting company.
They love going to the beach and take many opportunities to go when the weather is right!!
Kay loves reading as well as music and dancing but will be busy for some time arranging things in their new house. Peter is very interested in current affairs and likes to keep up with world events. He likes English sports especially English football and supports Tottenham HotSpurs and Crystal Palace, his local teams plus he also enjoys playing indoor cricket.
They both played competition tennis for Kenwick when they lived in Beckenham and were involved in the Tennis Club and its activities for many years. They supported the children in varied sports when they were growing up.
They have travelled to many parts of the world, and they have fond memories particularly of Bali where they also help a friend with a business. Additionally, they have travelled to many of the Asian countries as well as cruising the Southern seas and the Islands and some European countries. They are looking forward to more travels and returning to Bali.
We welcome them to the village and hope they will enjoy their retirement in our community.

FUNNIES OF THE MONTH
WELCOME TO THE CHAMPION COMMUNITY
This month we welcome new residents Frank & Lorna @ Lot 59 along with Greg & Sharon @ Lot 78 to their forever homes at our Village. Thanks again to Sheila for undertaking the meet and greet to allow us all at the Village to be introduced to these fabulous new residents.
Frank & Lorna – Lot 59
Lorna and Frank and their two gorgeous little Shih-tzu/ Maltese cross dogs called Sunny (the sunshine of their lives) and Fleur (meaning flower in French) have recently moved into their permanent home at Lot59, 2 Calm Drive.
They originally came from Yorkshire but came to Western Australia in 1967 with 2 small boys to make better lives and opportunities for them all. They are now proud grandparents of 7 grandchildren, 3 girls and 4 boys most of them live in WA and they are in regular contact with them with one in now in Melbourne. They are all doing well and having happy and fulfilling lives.
Frank had a successful business in the glass and aluminium trades when they came to WA for many years. Later he became interested in working in the MS society and Aged care areas, partly from experience with his own father who suffered from this neurological condition. Frank was efficient at seeing the potential and enabling clients to lead an independent life. He went on to working in school as an Ed Support worker with a young boy in high school for 5 years and helped him to achieve a high level of independence. He found this to be the most fulfilling part of his working life.
Lorna had several jobs initially then was able to reach her ambition to go to Teachers’ college and became a primary school teacher for 35 years, a job which she loved. She has recently been able to work part time in adult health and is happy to have the freedom from full time work.
They are looking forward to a simpler life now they are in the village and will be able to go away with the dogs in their van. They both enjoy travelling, the bush areas and quiet locations.
Lorna especially likes to read and learning in many areas with a special interest in wellness issues.
Frank also likes travelling and loves all types of music. They both also have an interest in live theatre and love seeing the variety of styles available.
Greg and Sharon Lot 78
Greg and Sharon have now settled in their forever home at lot 78, 1 Calm Drive with their Little Bichon Frise called Jack, he is an adorable friendly fella who is enjoying being part of such a large family of dogs in the village.
They both come from WA and have lived in the country at various times, the most recent 12 years have been spent in Kalbarri where they went after retiring. They have now returned to Perth to be nearer family. One of the things Greg misses is the regular fishing and crayfishing in Kalbarri.
This is the second marriage for both of them and they have five children between them, three girls and two boys who are all living in the Perth area. They have nine grandchildren, eight girls and one boy. He is certainly outnumbered when they get together!! Greg and Sharon are certainly fortunate that they are able to see them all frequently.
Sharon had employment doing office work for a freight company for many years. Greg was a mechanical fitter for 9 years in the Air Force then went into the Department of Correctional Services until retirement.
When Greg and Sharon decided to move to the Perth area they went round many of the village complexes and lifestyle villages and found that the open nature and dog friendly atmosphere of our village suited them and they are looking forward to being in the community.
Greg likes gardening and is especially interested in Desert Roses and has been successful in growing a variety of them in the past. He hopes to continue to cultivate them here as he gets settled. He also likes playing darts and he is looking forward to pursuing this here. Sharon is interested in crafts and knitting.
We welcome them to the village and hope they will enjoy their retirement among our community.
SOCIAL SCOOP – NYE Curry Night
A fabulously friendly and festive night was enjoyed by all residents at the recent New Years Eve – Curry evening held on the 31st December. With the balmy weather putting it on for us, an evening under the stars was enjoyed by all. 2021 was celebrated for many different reasons and 2022 was welcomed in with much cheer.

COMMUNITY GARDEN
The garden is flourishing with plenty of cucumbers, capsicum, egg plant and rhubarb. There are tomatoes, basil and spring onions in slightly less quantities at the moment and we will be removing the last of the rainbow chard (silverbeet) as soon as it’s past its prime and will leave that particular bed empty for the foreseeable future.
With a regular supply of produce being made available in the clubhouse for which donations are received, the garden team will be utilising some funds in the purchase of fertiliser and compost. This will replenish the soil in preparation for planting of the new season crops.
Please be careful when picking produce and to please do not leave unwanted leaves or broken bits of plants in the beds as this can spread disease.

Funnies of the Month
Welcome to the Champion Community
This month we welcome new residents Ron & Elaine @ Lot 60 along with Ailene @ Lot 23 to their forever homes at our Village. Thanks again to Sheila for undertaking the meet and greet to allow us all at the Village to be introduced to these fabulous new residents.
Ron & Elaine – Lot 60
We are delighted that Ron & Elaine have now settled permanently into their new home at Lot 60 after spending a few weeks at Lot 10 while their forever home was finished. They are accompanied by Buddy, a gorgeous little papillon dog who is one and a half years old and is a real charmer with a cute personality and cheeky look. He is bound to be a hit with the little ladies, probably both dog and human kind!!!
Originally Ron and Elaine lived in New South Wales but moved to Perth about 5 years ago. They lived at Alkimos for a year before moving to a new home in Baldivis where they stayed for about 4 years before coming into the village.
They have 2 daughters, 2 grandchildren and 3 great grandchildren in the area and enjoying spending time with those that reside in the local area. They have additional children and extended family on the East Coast.
They find their house in the village both comfortable and cosy and have done an incredible job of moving in and getting themselves sorted out most efficiently. They are enjoying meeting new people and are trying out various activities in the village and experiencing new interests.
Ailene – Lot 23
We would like to welcome the lovely Ailene and her gorgeous little Maltese cross mix named Shilow at Lot 23 into our village.
Ailene had a difficult time just prior to coming into the village with over 13 weeks of treatment and hospitalisation ending ultimately in amputation of her right leg above the knee.
She is coping amazingly well in her wheelchair with the assistance of regular visits from Silver Chain and her daughter and managing to be as independent as possible with the many challenges she faces. She is enjoying organising herself in her new home. In preparation for the festive season she has an incredible Christmas theme in her living and outdoor areas and loves the Christmas season.
Ailene has a daughter and a son whom she sees regularly. Her son Wayne has recently moved into a new house in Byford and her daughter Julie lives in Armadale and has 3 grown up children who also keep contact with Ailene. In her early years, Ailene originally from Bridgetown moved to Kenwick in Grade 4 and then lived in Kelmscott and surrounding areas for many years to follow. Ailene had lived in Malaysia in her early 20s for 2 years but came back to Brisbane for the birth of her son and then returned to the Perth area to raise her family. When her children were old enough she went to work in Coles and became Manager for many years involved in training and travelling around the State. She was loyal and committed to the company for 30 years, even getting the long service leave infamous watch upon her retirement!
She is a keen follower of Netball particularly when her daughter played in her earlier years and now subsequently with her granddaughters. She is their biggest supporter. She also loves to do intricate colouring in and finds that relaxing.
Once Ailene decided to move from a bigger property in Armadale she visited the village and liked the outlook and style. She finds the people are very friendly and is enjoying interacting with the other residents and looking forward to meeting people at the Christmas dinner.
VILLAGE OPEN DAY – Sunday November 14th
“Right Sizing” – looks and feels very different at Champion Lifestyle. We held an Open Day at the Village on Sunday 14th November, and with over 150 guests seizing the opportunity to see what Champion Lakes has to offer we were very overwhelmed with the fabulous help and assistance the residents gave us in showcasing the Village to the wider community. On behalf of Management thank you to each and every one of you for the support and efforts leading up to and on the day!!
SOCIAL SCOOP – Hearing Australia & Gingin Bus Trip
The Village was recently visited by Hearing Australia to deliver Free Hearing tests to our residents with many taking up the opportunity to partake in the sessions. At times there was a line of eager residents waiting their turn, and as it was a stunning sunny day the shade was very enjoyed. Thank you Hearing Australia.
Gin Gin Bus Trip – a group of residents headed off for a bit of an adventure on the 25th November and attended the Berry farm, Honey farm, Goats cheese farm, with a stop for lunch at the Gingin Hotel before heading to Toodyay to the Christmas shop, Coorinja Winery, Noble Falls (where the photos are taken), Margaret River Chocolate Factory then on to home with Casey’s tours. A great day was had by all and special thanks must go to John who was the lead instigator for the trip as well as Rhonda for providing the photos. We look forward to many photos of trips enjoyed by residents in the New Year.
VILLAGE MANAGEMENT UPDATE
Thank you to everyone who helped out on the Village Open Day. It was a huge success with over 150 visitors enjoying the food, drinks and entertainment by Chris from varying artists such as The Beetles to Bublé.
Thank you Ron and Denise for the Xmas decorations and lights at the lodge, and all residents for decorating their houses creating a wonderful holiday atmosphere for all of us. The celebratory turning on of the lights was certainly quiet a spectacular.
The Village Management & Sales office will be taking a little break over the Christmas period with the office closed from Monday 20th December through to Friday 7th January 2022. For urgent matters during this time, you are encouraged to call 0438 510 789. Sales enquiries will be by private appointment only during this time.
COMMUNITY GARDEN
Following the recent Herb talk held at the Village on Wednesday 1st December, 2021, we will have some new herbs being planted in the Community Garden along with establishment of the worm farm that can provide the plants in the area with what us green thumbs call “Liquid Gold”. The spring plantings are coming along very nicely and we will keep encouraging people to come join in the community garden activities at their leisure over the warmer months.
Hobby Shed
Residents may have noticed that the noticeboard has recently been re-positioned for improved ease of reference for all residents upon entering the Clubhouse. As an additional extra a bench was also installed below the noticeboard and special thanks must go to Fred and Ron for building this for us. The new area looks great and is perfect for the little bits and pieces that need a home for regular resident drop offs. Fred and Ron have also used their talents to build a children’s kitchenet.
